As most of you know, I said that I would no longer be doing mags. Well that is true, but I'll still do a week in review, which will be like a mag but not as much hype. Depending on how many sign-ups we continue to get then of course that might change the way I feel about doing a mag.

Battle of the Week:

Varcity vs. Illustration

I can't believe Varcity didnt get a single vote because this was an extremely close battle. Varcity had some fresh concepts and all his punches were pretty solid in my eyes. He utilized wordplay in each bar, but slacked on his setups a bit. I also felt he could have elaborated and tweaked a few things with the 'played' personal quotes from Illustration, but overall he had a very good drop.

Illustration came with a really nice personal and that pretty much sold the voters. He had some nice concepts but I saw a few played lines/flipped concepts in there myself, but overall his witty approach and more polished bars won this for him.

Nice Job to both battlers

Review of the Battlers/Matchups

CBL Champ Match: 1. Illustration (9-2) vs. 2 Area (3-1)
Nice matchup here. Area has finally emerged from his hiatus and the last few weeks he showed that he can still conjure up some creative ish. Illustration has been pretty consistent throughout his stay here and can be clever at times. He'll have to bring a fresher appoach and solid punches in order to take this though. This one will come down to the wire.

CBL Contendership: 3. Torment (4-5) vs. 4. Nostalgia (4-4)
These two battled a couple of weeks ago, so this should be a challenge to both. They will both have to bring new, creative concepts towards the other. Nostalgia has stepped up a bit, but poor wording and stretched to death bars seem to be his problem; his concepts are pretty good though. Torment has had the more polished performances but his forced wordplay seems to put the voters on edge. To me, he's one of the few ppl who's brought the most creative plays utilizing some of the most 'generic items' of everyday life.

Here's some of his previous bars I liked:
..Get ya mouth shut, wired and taped more than a dirty snitch,
cuz ur "Trailer" mobile, n make ya Home-Run without tossin da Pitch..

..I bring shame, with teeth remarks ya bitchass bite,
man his "lines"so blown-over, his verse should equip kites..

5. koke07 (2-1) vs. 6. Timberlake (1-0)
Most of the drops I've seen from Koke seem to be very bland and indirect. He has a tendancy to approach text battles as you would an audio and it doesnt work for me. Timberlake has the more comedic approach, but needs to utilize wordplay and bring some solid punches once he gets matched up with some of the league's competition.

7. Varcity (5-3) vs. 8. Sureloc Holmes (6-4)
Sureloc Holmes has some nice concepts but when the surface is stratched, you can see that most of them are actually flips with not much creativity. He can bring solid punches, but most of them seem to be indirect. He does however, throw in a nameplay or two and those are usually what wins the battles for him. When Holmes takes time to think of punches related to his opponent, he is a solid battler.

For instance, this bar was consider LOTB against Torment, whereas most of the other material in his drop was either played or flips:
plus he's a man whore that sells across the nation with needles crushed
i mean, DAMN...that's a worldwide Tor that'd make the Beatles blush

Varcity has a unique style that some would pair with a punchline rapper, but his setups seem to be his downfall. He can create a punch out of damn near anything, but if he wants to win here, he'll have match that with more wit.

9. Tyme Lyne (2-1) vs. 10. Kufi Agitator (0-1)
Wow is all I can say. Tyme Lyne has a different approach, where she incorporates punches but not with the tradition battle format, I guess you can say she's in her own creative bubble that most people have failed to recognize. Now you can blame this on me being in a zone half the time, but most of the ish Tyme writes whether its in her battles or she's responding to a quote, cracks me up. She comes up with some of the most outlandish ish I've ever seen...Bubba Sparxx & pig dung, hog wash...Just some krazy back porch sittin, country ish. Now I've seen Kufi bring some kool punches/wordplay back in the day, but recently he's lost his touch. If both of these show, this will be pure comedy. Well for me atleast...

11. Caleb Pratt (1-2) vs. 12. scoobykanye (0-0)
Caleb Pratt is starting to come out more and more, but he still has that audio approach. His concepts are pretty kool, but he fails to execute a solid punch. I cant remember scoobykanye, its been a while since I've seen anything from him.

13. DJ Vegas (0-0) vs. 14. Young (0-0)
Dont know anything about these two, except that DJ Vegas claims to be a vet on another site...Guess we'll have to wait and see.
