*Easy killer! First and foremost, I am not saying that Brock Lesnar took steroids, not in any shape or fashion. Brock Lesnar is very sick! It has...

Easy killer! First and foremost, I am not saying that Brock Lesnar took steroids, not in any shape or fashion. Brock Lesnar is very sick! It has been blogged to death all over the internet. Writers have cited WebMD, random doctors, and tons of websites about his condition. People have dragged this story from one extreme to another and back again. Here is the deal, he is sick! He may recover and fight, he may not! We do not know as of right now, but what we do know is that the use of steroids has been medically proven to delay or mask symptoms of his disease. This may have nothing to do with anything, but…

Again, not saying he is/was/or has juiced…

When I was browsing the internet earlier I came across a post on the Sportsbybrooks website located here . It must be noted that this is a very popular website seen by many sports fans that do not watch MMA or the UFC. They know of Brock Lesnar, but they don’t understand him or the sport (many not all). Sports by Brooks is a great site and I am not hating on them one bit.

On their site they stated this:

“I’m by no means accusing Brock Lesnar of doing steroids, but a quick check on the diagnosis of diverticulitis reveals that steroid use can sometimes play a significant role in masking early symptoms.

In 2003, the New Zealand Medical Journal reported , “One of the lesser known but most life-threatening gastrointestinal side effects of steroids is the perforation of colonic diverticula.”

Meanwhile, in 2005, Holly Salzman, M.D., and Dustin Lillie, M.D. of the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine reported in their article Diverticular Disease: Diagnosis and Treatment: “Steroids also may mask symptoms (of Diverticulitis) and delay appropriate therapy.”

Now, I have said several times that I am not saying he is juicing. However, if it comes out that Brock has taken ‘roids, then any credibility that he has gained will be instantly lost. Since day one he has aggresively denied the use of performance enhancing drugs, even walking out of interviews and punching holes in walls.

I for one am not a Brock fan. That being said, this is not the way I want to see him go out. He is the champion that everyone roots loves or loves to hate. Know one knows if he will indeed forfeit his title in the future, but if he does it will be a sad day. If he is going to be dethroned from the king of the mountain, it should be at the hands of another fighter.

Either way the UFC will rebound. No fighter in the world is irreplacable. For every Matt Hughes there is a GSP, for every Chuck Liddell there is a Lyoto Machida, and for every Brock Lesnar there is someone…who we will see in the future.

I also want to add that I think what Shame Carwin did after hearing the news needs more attention! Here is the link to his post on The UG . It was beyond a classy move, kudos to Mr. Carwin!

Curtis and Kyle Show Blog Archive Medical Doctors: Steroids delay Diverticulitis symptoms
The rematch between Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua for the Ultimate Fighting Championship light heavyweight belt is set.

“Lyoto Machida will fight May 1 in Montreal against ‘Shogun’,” Dana White told Yahoo! Sports Wednesday.

White had promised a rematch as soon as possible after the unbeaten Machida defeated Rua in a unanimous but highly debated decision on Oct. 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. White was one of many onlookers who believed Rua had won the fight.

All three judges disagreed, allowing Machida to retain his championship, giving Machida scores of 48-47 across the baord.

A rematch was tentatively scheduled for Jan 2, 2010 in Las Vegas, but was postponed while Machida recovered from minor injuries.

The fight will headline the UFC’s third annual spring event in Montreal, where it twice staged sold-out shows at the city’s 21,000-seat Bell Centre. Hometown hero Georges St. Pierre reclaimed his welterweight championship against Matt Serra at UFC 83 in April 2008. Middleweight champion Anderson Silva defended his belt against Thales Leites at UFC 97 in April 2009.

Manny Pacquiao, PPV TV Hercules: 1.6 million buys and counting...

Manny Pacquiao, PPV TV Hercules: 1.6 million buys and counting

Tabulating boxing PPV TV buy rates is like tracking a presidential election. It takes some patience just like a race for the White House.

You don’t start with 14 votes from the tiny hamlet of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, like you do when CNN and all their competitors are trying to get a handle on McCain versus Obama but you do have early indicators as to what the final numbers might be.

“Tracking strong, tracking very strong especially in the commercial establishments (bars and reataurants)” is the word I am getting from a longtime PPV TV maven who was not involved in the Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao promotion.

Seee the Sports llustrated report by Chris Mannix who agrees with me and all sane individuals that the Mayweather-Pacman Colossal will go to contract.

My knowledgeable source, who must remain anonymous so to preserve him as a source, told me Tuesday afternoon that what he is looking at are total numbers that may quickly match and then surpass the supposed 1.1 million buy rate that Floyd Mayweather did against Juan Manuel Marquez on Sept. 19.

It won’t be until probably late Thursday that a reasonably certain “final number” can be extrapolated from the various PP distributors.

This industry veteran explained how the buy rate is compiled.

"The only guys who can get the real numbers are Bob Arum, and of course Ross Greenburg and Mark Taffet (HBO)," he said.

"Today, meaning Tuesday's it all projections. By the end of the business day Wednesday they will have hard, reliable numbers as reported in from Direct TV and Dish Network, Those companies own the PPV boxes so they get their numbers directly. In Demand takes longer because they work with a bunch of unwired cable companies where those companies report from their boxes.

"I think it will match Marquez-Mayweather and maybe inch a bit past their numbers,” this TV insider said. “From there, it’s a heavy push to blow past the PPV all time record which is about 2.3 million for the Oscar de la Hoya-Mayweather fight. I do not know if a fight between a guy from the Philippines and a guy from Puerto Rico whose last name is not Trinidad can beat Floyd-Oscar.

“I will say this if the Mayweatgher clique thought they would smash Pacman’s final numbers, the early returns already tell me they got that wrong.”

Conspiracy theorists think games will be played and that Arum may not get the real numbers in an attempt to lower Pacman’s asking price for the Mayweather mega fight.

The old pro I spoke to said fear not on that account.

“He turns age 79 a month from now. But although Arum was born at night, he was not born last night. They don’t call him ‘The Sheik’ around his office for nothing.

"Don’t forget his 40 plus years of counting the money and the fact that he distributes his own PPV shows, the Latin Fury and Pinoy Power shows.

“Nobody is going to fool Arum with the hidden ball trick, trust me. As they like to say down at Redbone's Barbeuce over in Mineral Wells, Texas, this ain't Uncle Bobby's first PPV rodeo."

If, as a foreigner, Pacman can even match Mayweather’s numbers, I’d say that is yet another Pacquiao victory.

Let’s see what happens.

Couture vs Coleman at UFC109

*Randy Couture and Mark Coleman have verbally agreed to a light heavyweight headlining bout at UFC 109 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has...

Randy Couture and Mark Coleman have verbally agreed to a light heavyweight headlining bout at UFC 109 on Feb. 6 in Las Vegas, Sherdog.com has learned through sources close to the bout.

If signed, the bout will mark the first time UFC hall of famers have met in the Octagon. Both former heavyweight champions, Couture was originally slated to face Coleman at UFC 17 in May 1998 in Mobile, Ala., before the four-time Olympic alternate hurt his ribs prepping for that year’s Greco-Roman wrestling Nationals.

Instead, Coleman fought Pete Williams, a then unknown Lion’s Den protégé, and was knocked out with a head kick just past the 12-minute mark. The accomplished wrestlers’ paths did not cross again.

Couture, 46, out-clinched muay Thai striker Brandon Vera to a unanimous decision last Saturday at UFC 105 in Manchester, England. Couture is the only fighter to have held titles in both the UFC’s light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions and was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2006. He is also a two-time Div. I National Championships team member and a two-time NCAA Div. I runner-up for Oklahoma State University.

Coleman, 44, breathed new life into his 13-year career with a unanimous decision victory over 32-year-old “The Ultimate Fighter” finalist Stephan Bonnar at UFC 100 last July in Las Vegas. He was slated to face former 205-pound champion Tito Ortiz at UFC 106 on Nov. 21 in Las Vegas, but withdrew with a slightly torn MCL in early October.

Coleman, who was inducted by the UFC in 2008, was Pride Fighting Championships’ first grand prix tournament champion in 2000 and placed seventh in freestyle wrestling at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. Coleman was an NCAA Div. I champion his senior year at Ohio State University.

NEW YORK -- Zack Greinke won the American League Cy Young Award on Tuesday, easily beating out Felix Hernandez after a spectacular season short on wins but long on domination.

Greinke went 16-8 with a major league-low 2.16 ERA for the Kansas City Royals. Hernandez was 19-5 with a 2.49 ERA for the Seattle Mariners.

Greinke received 25 of 28 first-place votes and three seconds for 134 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. Hernandez drew two firsts, 23 seconds and one third for 80 points.

"I thought it was going to be real close between the two of us," Greinke said.

The Detroit Tigers' Justin Verlander was third with the remaining first-place vote and nine thirds for 14 points. He was followed by the New York Yankees' CC Sabathia with 13 points and Toronto Blue Jays' Roy Halladay with 11 points.
Kansas City, which tied for last place in the AL Central at 65-97, scored just 13 runs in his eight losses and 21 runs in his nine no-decisions. He failed to get a victory in six starts in which he allowed one run or none.

He was particularly sharp at the start and finish, going 5-0 with a 0.50 ERA in April and 5-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his last eight starts. He didn't allow any runs in his first three starts and any earned runs in his first four, and his 0.84 ERA through 10 starts was the first below 1.00 in the major leagues since Juan Marichal's 0.55 in 1966.

He struck out 15 over eight innings against the Cleveland Indians on Aug. 25 and followed five days later by pitching a one-hitter at Seattle. After Kenji Johjima's soft second-inning single, Greinke retired his final 22 batters.

Greinke, who agreed to a $38 million, four-year contract last winter, receives a $100,000 bonus for winning.
How CRAZY is that? This is a professional mixed martial arts judge at the highest level of the sport, someone who is judging an Ultimate Fighting Championship bout, between two guys that are professional fighters....their careers are on the line, it's a huge contest, two equally skilled guys in a hotly contested match, and the judge has literally no idea what's going on.

Read this article..........
The worst call of the final 2:08 of the Indianapolis Colts’ 35-34 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday wasn’t made by Bill Belichick.

It came courtesy of head linesman Tom Stabile, who on the now-infamous fourth-and-2 attempt, ruled Patriots running back Kevin Faulk(notes) was juggling the pass until he landed on his back inside the 30-yard line.

Replays show Faulk had jumped in the air and initially batted the ball up. Stabile could see that. Faulk, however, then cradled it into his chest as he planted one foot on each side of the 30 before being pushed down.
Whether replay would have been conclusive enough to overrule Stabile’s call is unknown. The NFL may claim the call on the field would’ve stood, but who knows what would’ve been determined.

Since the Patriots had blown their timeouts and the play came just outside the two-minute warning, which would’ve triggered an automatic review, it’s all a moot point.

You can watch the video here.

Stabile’s call was problematic because he couldn’t have seen where Faulk caught the pass. Faulk was turned away from Stabile as he brought the ball in. The ref was therefore screened by Faulk’s back and shoulder pads – plus at least some part of Colts defender Melvin Bullitt(notes). He had no view of the ball, Faulk’s hands or Faulk’s chest.

There was no way Stabile saw the play. He ruled anyway. He must have assumed that Faulk was still juggling the ball when he planted both feet. (Personally, I think he had possession). By making a decision he couldn’t accurately make, he spotted the ball just short of the first down.

In fairness to Stabile, this is why calling a football game is so difficult. The speed, size, intensity of the moment is unmatched in sports. Mistakes happen. He, no doubt, was trying his best.

No other official overruled him. There were at least three on the field that would’ve had better views. Two of them were looking away from the catch, according to replays. The other was all the way across the field and was likely screened himself.

So the play failed, even if it probably didn’t.

As a result, Belichick has been getting roasted for going for it on fourth down despite the fact that his team either actually converted the play or was ruled to have not converted it by an official who couldn’t have known.

“I thought we could make the yard,” Belichick said. “We had a good play, we completed it. I don’t know how we couldn’t get a yard on that completion.”

Belichick brings plenty of heat on himself, so no one is going to shed any tears for the guy. His postgame pout, sprint from the field and open-field block of some poor camera man by his goon squad security team is all typical behavior.

Most of America has seemed to revel in seeing the so-called evil genius get a comeuppance by letting gumption overrule football intelligence.

None of that is particularly fair, though.

While the criticism has been near unanimous, it’s been based mostly on some axiom that the better percentage move was to punt it away. Meanwhile, actual statistical probability formulas say the opposite. An overwhelming number say Belichick played the odds correctly. At worst, there’s AccuScore, which says the win probability was about even regardless.

Consider Brian Burke of AdvancedNFLStats.com. As Burke wrote for the New York Times:

“With 2:08 left and the Colts with only one timeout, a successful 4th-and-2 conversion wins the game for all practical purposes. A conversion on 4th-and-2 would be successful 60 percent of the time. Historically, in a situation with 2:00 left and needing a TD to either win or tie, teams get the TD 53 percent of the time from that field position. The total win probability for the 4th-down conversion attempt would therefore be:

“(0.60 * 1) + (0.40 * (1-0.53)) = 0.79 WP (WP stands for win probability)

“A punt from the 28 typically nets 38 yards, starting the Colts at their 34. Teams historically get the TD 30 percent of the time in that situation. So the punt gives the Pats about a 0.70 WP.”

You don’t need to know much math to know 79 percent is a greater likely win percentage than 70 percent.

Personally, I’m not completely convinced of probability conversions when it comes to a game with as many variables as football. The Colts defense is not the average defense. This isn’t playing against St. Louis in the second quarter. Crowd noise matters. And so on.

Then again, Peyton Manning(notes) isn’t the average quarterback – either at his own 30 or the Patriots’ 30. Of course, neither is a pass from Tom Brady(notes) to Kevin Faulk, two clutch, veteran players.

Still, it ought to count for something that all of the probability formulas go in Belichick’s favor. The majority of people issuing blistering attacks can cite the assumed probability that punting was the best option. That can’t be deemed more accurate than actual probability even if you don’t believe fully in the math.

There are few things worse in sports than when conventional wisdom of how something should be done (because that’s how it’s always been done) sends a chilling effect for innovation and ingenuity.

There are few black-and-white decisions in the course of a football game. One may be better than the other, but it’s never 100 percent to zero percent. Belichick didn’t make a good choice or a bad choice, he made his own choice.

Having a coach think for himself based on great insight (statistical or otherwise) should never be called a bad move.

Let’s mention a few other things. No one play wins or loses a 60-minute football game. The Patriots twice turned the ball over in the Colts’ end zone – one a Brady interception, one a Laurence Maroney(notes) goal-line fumble. Avoid that and the game is over. There are 50 other examples.

Belichick is at no risk of being fired like other coaches who too often play it by the book and lose. He can, and always has, made bold decisions that more often than not work out for him.

And while he may or may not have hurt his players’ feelings, well, when has that ever mattered to this guy? He’s always been about winning and winning only. The man has cut Super Bowl MVPs before. You don’t like his decision? Deal with it.

In the end the Patriots lost, and that’s essentially all that matters. Belichick will be the first to tell you that. You win or you lose.

The one thing Belichick couldn’t factor when making his decision was a referee making a call he wasn’t in position to make. Stabile’s assumption that Faulk was still juggling a ball when his feet straddled the first-down line was the difference on the play.

If Stabile assumes the other way or another official happens to be watching, it’s probably first-and-10 New England.

Instead, Belichick is an egomaniacal moron. He’d have still been a genius had he just punted and lost that way.
