HD DVD goes one better: 51GB disc approved
Rob Mead If you believe the Blu-ray Disc Association, the battle for high definition optical formats is all about storage capacity: 50GB for its format; a measly 30GB for HD DVD. Now all that has changed. On Friday the DVD Forum - the industry body that sets DVD and next-gen disc standards - approved Toshiba's proposal for a triple-layer HD DVD offering 51GB capacity. That's a whole 1GB better than the best that Blu-ray can do. So what does this mean? In reality, not much. Despite the Blu-ray camp's persistent boasting, very few films actually use Blu-ray's 50GB capacity; while the HD DVD Promotion Group argues that it's not capacity that counts, but the kind of audio-video compression used. The HD DVD camp has always maintained that the H.264 and VC-1 codecs it uses are more efficient than the MPEG2 codec used on many Blu-ray discs. ------------------------------ thats fucken awesome.. Sony definetly gonna be . If blu-ray fails, Sony fails.. this is not a good look for Sony.

Blu Ray won't fail, I think that's already been established. Blu Ray are working on the 75/100GB disc right now.
I don't see why your so excited about any news against Sony everytime despite how little it will actually effect anything. HD DVD players are like half the price of Blu Ray players and they have sold like half the amount Blu Ray's have. Also this is mad old.

Considering I don't own a PS3, your statement is invalid. I support the PS3 on here purely because there are various members like you that get aroused by anything against PS3, as has been proven once again. You can't appreciate another system, it's simple, don't talk about it. It just makes you look incredibly sad to see you post day after day about how happy you are that circuit boards and chips aren't doing as well as expected.

Well, this is good news because you really can't argue with the capacity issue, but it hardly plays a role in the outcome of the formats.
The install base, and movie selection are what are going to determine it in the long run. Blu Ray has both covered mainly because of the PS3, but HD DVD isn't giving up without a fight. Not to mention everybody that has an HD DVD player buy HD movies for it. I don't know ANYBODY that has a standalone Blu Ray player. And a lot of peeps that I know don't even bother buying movies on Blu Ray either. |

lmao @ the 360 threads, fanboy threads etc. i could give a flying fuck. the fact is this;
the console war is FAR from over. Far, far from over... The Wii has almost sold the same amount as the 360 in HALF THE TIME and the PS3 sales are steady too. So the sales thing is just starting to balance out a bit. The best games for each console are not out yet, so quit complaining. Come back in 3 years time n we'll see who won
