Microsoft has "no plans" for Xbox 360 Blu-ray drive

Company says it will not be using Sony technology in its "game console."

"As we have stated, we have no plans to introduce a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360," said a Microsoft official in an email to GamePro on Monday. "Games are what drive consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."

The statement comes amid persistent reports that Microsoft will release a Blu-ray drive for Xbox 360 given the discontinuation of the console's now defunct HD DVD drive.

On Friday, the Economic Daily News (via Digitimes) reported that Pegatron Technology has secured an order from Microsoft to manufacture Xbox 360 models with internal Blu-ray drives for release this fall.

Even though Blu Ray beat HD, it's still not treally a success. People are happy with DVD, Blu Ray is like laser disc. Yeah it was better than VHS, but VHS killed it and it never got as biga s everyone wanted it to. Regular DVD is killing BluRay

^give it time, by the time microsoft adds there blu ray player in to consoles, dvd will be slowly moving out and blu ray moving in

Blue way is to expensive and not worthwhile to the average consumer. By that same logic only people should have HD tv's etc cuz thats what you need for blu ray, yet most people still have regular tvs.

Blue ray is a pointless and over priced luxary that no-one really wants that much, or needs

Yea but eventually HDTV's will be the norm and the price of blue ray players/movies will drop. In time DVD's will become a thing of the past and blue ray will be the standard, may not be for some time but it will happen

but most homes dnt have HDTV's when the do it will happen

i highly doubt it''ll be blue ray, it'll probably be another format that'll surface in the next few years
