yawn yawn yawn...
this guy is work says that non-copy protection games have more of an impact on sales. He mentioned Bioshock and COD4 as a prime example saying how Bioshock didnt sell many cos it needed to be updated once every 10 days or something and because COD4 had no copy protection, it sold like hot cakes. i really dont know whether to agree or disagree. But what i will say is this; COD4 was gonna sell if it was protected or not, that game is THE SHIT. so anyone got any comments on this?

Bioshock didn't sell that many copies because it didn't have multiplayer plain and simple.
Plus, I think he is talking about PC games, since they have a dynamic key on them. |

yeah he's talkin bout PC games cos he plays them alot more.
And he was saying how consoles are getting alot of the limelight at the moment and the PC isn't but the PC will get it back, because ''thats just how it goes''.. i tend not to argue with him any more, i just listen

Well, the PC never really had the "limelight" in the US, it was always the "minority" of the group. The 360 however is stealing the show from PC games (mainly RTS games).
Go to Korea, or China though, and you'll see that the PC Gamer demographic destroys the console demographic like 20:1. |

PC games are alot harder to keep up with than next-gen consoles because the cost of hardware updates you consistently have to do (Video cards to be exact).
But the PC game base has fallen, aside from WoW and Faggot MapleStory, there's no more huge CS attraction, Starcraft, Diablo, Sims, Max Payne etc., hell even Crysis didn't do as much. PC games aren't being advertised for shit, mostly MMORPG like Warcraft and MapleStory are being advertised. Plus the whole PC world has expanded into a huge social network, so when people are asked what they do on a computer it's not gaming. There's a tendency with people when they use computers, it's not gaming priority 1st then browsing, it's checking your myspace, searching youtube, IM, RS, etc. It's too easy to forget about PC Games. Plus installing PC games takes like 1/2 hour. Maybe there are compelling arguements but I just can't see PC gaming coming back, no one buys a PC to play games anymore unless they're old school gamers who haven't walked into next-gen.

With the king of all RTS games: Starcraft II on the horizon, I really don't see PC gaming going anywhere. Sure, they don't advertise PC games ON THE TV, but if you're on the internet, reading a PC mag, or have a Steam Account, I'm pretty sure you have seen PC ads somewhere. |

No I see your argument, and I was speaking on behalf of the US.
I'm a PC gamer, have been always will be, but when I anticipate a game coming out, it's never for PC. I've got World in Conflict, which is coming to 360 btw, Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes, but those are somewhat old now but notice all the new games are pretty much a bunch of expansion packs. PC games have pretty much stopped with hype aside from Starcraft II which has taken years to release, last time I got excited for a game on PC was F.E.A.R. Hell you can go on IGN, they push consoles games alot more than PC. I know in Countries like China and Russia they love PC gaming, hence some of the laws they put out to stop alot of kids from playing online. Just think about this though, those countries have internet cafes that people have to go to play unless they can afford it. Since it seems that alot of countries can't afford PC's they can use one for a cheap price, and play all sorts of PC gaes. As for consoles, the lower class just can't afford it, there's nowhere where you can sit and just pay to play a PS3 or 360, but I'm sure it would have the same or even bigger effect if they did. All in all, PC gaming has became more of an RTS world, people really haven't gotten into FPS or action because the use of the mouse and keyboard doesn't fit well and alot of people don't know how to utilize their 360 or PS3 controllers. Just look at the releases of PC games coming out, nothing that great or hand me down games that come from consoles. Look at all the recent games released, nothing but 1 or 2 decent reviews with a bunch of average or below average results. It seems that if a good PC game comes out, it lasts along time, and when you mention PC only franchises, those seem to be the only great games to come out. The Sims has had more expansions than I can count, WoW costs money to play, Tycoon was a great original but it just reminds me too much of Madden when they keep adding new content but it's still the same thing. I honestly don't care enough about this subject to debate it anymore, but speaking from my US perspective and based on all the reviews I read, there's just nothing really jumping out anymore when it comes to PC Gaming.

Yeah, I see exactly what you are talking about, and I'm not trying to say you're wrong or anything, because you seem very knowledgeable in what you preach.
I guess the main thing that really sucks the shit for all 3 (PS3, 360, PC) is the fact that they are all sharing killer app titles nowadays. Back in the day, shit like Duke Nukem 3D, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Quake III Arena, Unreal Tournament, System Shock, and all other kinds of games would debut on PC, and remain on PC for a LONG period of time. There still are games that PC seriously brought the can of whoopass (Battlefield for example), but yeah, the big multiplatform fiasco definitely hit the PC market the hardest since most of their franchises are the ones going multiplat. |
