Reports are suggesting that Sony has cut the number of launch units from 100,000 to 80,000 in Japan.
The news comes from the morning edition of Nikkei Keizai Shimbun. Last month Sony delayed the launch of the PS3 in Europe till March, and halved its shipping forecasts for North America and Japan, due to problems manufacturing the Blu-ray laser diode. Originally, Sony hoped to ship four million units before the end of 2006. But now it seems the company cannot meet its revised launch plans. The number of units available at launch in North America currently remains unchanged at 400,000. The PlayStation 3 will be released in Japan on November 11th and in North America on November 17th.

I KNEW it, I told you Sony would fuck up on a universal launch. They fucked up with the PSX, PS2, AND the PSP, what makes you think shit would change now. Plus knowing how Sony products go down, it'll have a shitload of problems with it (Most of it being bluray related imo).

It will more than likely not be region free. If it was, they could release both the Japan and US versions at the same time.

PS3 is region free, but not on PS2 games. Sony did cut the websites of that made people import like Play-Asia. They are not allowed to ship to Europe anymore.
By the way, Xbox 360 had the update to 1080p. PS3 isn't much better then 360 anymore, it still is expensive. I nym opinion Sony has failed, they even had to cut untis in their own country. What is up? |

Thing with Sony is, even with all of these missteps.,.,scratch that FUCK UPS, they have A LOT of brand loyalty.,.,remember how many people overlooked the Sega Dreamcast prior to the launch of the PS2.,.,same thing is happening now... me? Imma buy a revolution(never gonna call it the we) and a 360, that's cheaper than a PS3 and I'm getting a lot more overall

The main reason I want the PS3 is because the games are supposedly supporting native 1080P via HDMI while the 360 Just got 1080p support on just the dashboard (Nothing has been said about if they will have games running at a native 1080p, if anything, I think they'll just upconvert 720 to 1080).
And the PS3 IS NOT region free. There hasn't been a single videogame console that has been region free (Unless you count the Neo Geo). With handheld games like the Gameboy, PSP, and NGPC yeah, there is no region lockout (At least for games anyways), but we are talking about consoles. |

Microsoft has confirmed games will support 1080p. Splinter Cell was supposed to have it already, but they cancelled it cuz of the early launch. But there will be games on 1080p, why would they have 1080p for a dashboard?
Must've misread that the PS3 was region free. Sorry |
