PS3 has removable top plate (Change Case Covers?)
Interestin news here:
Casual and hardcore gamers alike looking for ways to customize their consoles have always run the risk of creating colorful paperweights. Microsoft recognized this issue and gave gamers some help in this department when they allowed the face plate of their Xbox 360 to be fully interchangeable with any custom plate that met the dimensions of their console. It now appears that Sony has taken a similar measure. By pressing a button on the side of the PlayStation 3, the top panel of the console pops right off. The warranty sticker sits below the panel, so taking it off does not appear to void the console's warranty. Whether Sony intended for customizable tops is unknown, but it should be interesting to see if companies begin to release custom tops for the PS3 in the coming months.

I think the removable top is for switching out and upgrading the hard drive. Not sure though.

I hope that's for removing the hard drive, because if it's customizable, that's just ANOTHER idea stolen from the 360
