The internet rumormills are buzzing with the speculation that Sony is preparing an 80-Gig model of their PlayStation 3 system.

The evidence: Kotaku dug up a filing with the FCC in which a new PS3 model with an 80GB hard disk was listed as an additional inclusion to the original FCC grant for the two currently available models of PS3s.

Sony responded with this official word, which is neither a confirmation nor a denial:

As mentioned when we made the product announcement for PS3, the system will have different configurations (thus, 60GB HDD with memory card slots and Wi-Fi and 20GB HDD without memory card slots or Wi-Fi both exists). Application to the FCC has been made with various possibilities in mind, however, it does not lead to a new product announcement at this time.

Hmmm...interesting stuff, no? Who knows what the mad scientists at Sony are cooking up in their hidden PS3 labratories?

you can already upgrade the hard drive on any ps3 with a laptop harddrive, and ps3 already has hdmi and already is black so what would the be the diffrence? by the way i am posting this from my PS3!! can you do that on 360?

Acturally this is basically the 'new' replacement for the 60GB, so its the premiem one and its going be the same price as there using cheaper components. Also co-sign to ziplock, i am also posting from my ps3 but im not going rub it in 360 owners because im not a sony stan.

as ziplock said you can use any usb hard drive to upgrade it already, this isnt happening.

No, but you can do it on a £180 Nintendo Wii.

and this really isnt needed since u can already put any notebook hardrive in there
