It was May 25, 1997 when high school student David Cash failed to intercede when his best friend Jeremy Strohmeyer dragged 7-year-old Sherrice Iverson into a stall in the ladies' restroom at a Nevada casino and watched, without lifting a finger or raising a voice in protest, as Strohmeyer proceeded to brutally rape and strangle the Black girl. Several days later Cash was shown on television defiantly emerging from a limousine at the site of his school’s senior prom, an event from which he was barred. Already the young man was making a reputation for himself as a brash, remorseless, amoral sociopath with a clinging, twisted allegiance to Strohmeyer who pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Cash admitted to police that he witnessed the initial moments of the attack but left the restroom and did not notify authorities.

But the University of California (UC) at Berkeley found Mr. Cash acceptable and qualified, based on grade point average and SAT scores to enter triumphantly through Sather Gate.

Do you think Cash deserves to stay at Berkeley or should he be expelled???

i remember going over this case in my criminal justice class i believe they enacted the law after this incident stating if you witness a rape you are obligated to tell authorities. At the time he didn't break the law not to say what he did was completely fucked up. He also got extreme criticism at Cal tons of protest and pretty much being hated by everyone at the school which he deserved. If i can remember correctly he dropped out of Berk and went out of sight. On the case of whether he should be expelled or not technically he didn't break any laws at the time and to make Berkeley judge on whether or not for him to be expelled based on moral reasons and not hard proof is a tough call. I personally don't think that Berkeley would have the authority to do so and if they did they could prob expect a fatty law suite entitling this sicko money

. They prob made the right decision on allowing him to stay knowing that the general student population would ridicule him to the point where he would drop out.
