My favorite teacher was my 11th grade English teacher... He was mad cool... On the days that everything was done he wold let us chill in the classroom and freestyle to each other. He wasnt too oppressive like most teachers are and he wasnt really boring... He never bit his tongue, he told you like it was. He never had to write-up anyone and always respected us as students and young adults...

I didn't know someone from RGF was a teacher...but I'd like to say I respect you for being a teacher and contributing your time to enlightening people. I know that it can be a very little rewarded profession.

I wont say you shouldn't quit because thats a decision for you to make, and if you aren't happy with the job you have every right to find something that does make you happy.

funny thing though was that one of my high school math teachers had told me she had quit her job as an architect because even though she was getting payed good and loved the job... teaching just seemed like a much greater job for her. I respected her alot because I knew she had taken like a 20k a year pay-cut, and she had to work way more hours than she was working as an architect...... all for the love of teaching.

thats the key to succeeding in a profession though.... love. because if you don't love what you do then you wont be capable of doing the job as great as you could be.

Freedom writers was a good movie. Most teachers that were inspirational for me were people met outside of school where there are no constraints on learning or curriculum.Dangerous minds is about the high school a couple miles from my house & quite a few of my boys went during the "dangerous" time

Teach because you want to make a difference. Honestly, if you are questioning whether or not teaching is for you, you really shouldn't be a teacher. Like a lot of people have mentioned in the thread, you have to love what you do.

One of my teachers said this in one of our classes [it's not deep]: Work to live, do not live to work...

Do something you love and you will be happy; don't just do something because it pays well.

I would have to say that my favorite teacher was in the 11th grade and he was my technical drawing teacher. He was laid back and could relate to his students, but at the same time all kids knew to respect him and to give your all in his class. He was one of those teachers that could take the normal troublesome kids and get them to act right and to actually care about work in his class.

If you are happy with your job and results, then why leave? My mother (5th & 6th grade for 15 years, now a assistant principal) and grandmother (Kindergarten for 20+ years) are teachers. They always tell me that you do not go into teaching thinkin that you are going to make a lot of money. You go into teaching wanting to make a difference in a child's life. If it satisfies you watching kids do well in your class and make them want to do something with their lives, then why not continue to do so? I had the opportunity to substitute teach for a while, and I enjoyed helping the kids and they respected me. It felt good coming home knowing that I helped a student understand something because they would say their normal teacher never talked to them or made sure they 100% understood the lesson. But...my mom told I would not last as a teacher because I love money too much...lol
