As some of you may already know I am a teacher
as some of you may also know I watch many movies Just finished watching the film that's titile is this thread's title I have been a T for 6 years now and havin taught people of age between 8 - 40 I regard myself as an experienced T. This job is very idealistic, must admit that. If the students, I mean the teaching and the results don't give me satisfaction, my salary won't do. I am also considering leaving my work for various reasons. The movie in question seems very to the point I'd say. Dead Poets Society -> didnt like it for it was exaggerated to me. Dangerous Minds -> was.... I can't remember... but must've been only OK since I don't remember much bout it. School of Rock -> always wanted to be that kind of T. and now Freedom Writers, a gripping story, a true TEACHER - INSPIRATIONAL film as they say... the reason I'm creating this thred in GT not TRC is that the movie section seems to be less pop than the general thread and I wanna hear your voices/ read them... If you could spend some time writin at least two senteces about yr best teachers and providing examples of why you think they were the best, I would be grateful. Plz this thread is serious for me. awaiting your stories peace

I thought Dead Poet's Society was a great inspirational teachers drama, but Good Will Hunting is my favorite. Did you see Stand and Deliver? You might like that.
Anyways, onto the subject... I think my best teacher was the homeroom teacher I had in 8th grade. I was in a program called SEARCH, so it was a lot more than just homeroom. She taught the majority of our classes, and we went off to work for pay in the afternoons as sort of an extended job shadowing thing. Anyways, she took the time to get to know all of us personally and connect on a friendship level, talking to us about music, movies, personal life, all of that. She wasn't like a guidance counselor, she didn't seem to care just for the pay. She would strive to help us exercise our minds, and imply all of our common interests into it. She was young, she used that to her advantage, cause we definitely connected with her. Dude above me is a dick. And this won't let me prop you, but I think this is a fucking awesome thread compared to some I see on here, so just so you know, I'd prop for it if I could.

i ordered freedom writers from the blockbuster thing
got it in the mail. but never got around to watching it. im not a big fan of hillary swank. but as for teachers... i actually at one point wanted to be a teacher. wanted to be a math teacher.... but college wasnt really my thing. but teachers gotta be laid back. cant be so uptight. but still know how to teach when it gets down to it.

Freedom Writers is a good movie and pretty accurate as to how some teachers have to deal with situations.
I would have to say that my favorite teacher was in the 11th grade and he was my technical drawing teacher. He was laid back and could relate to his students, but at the same time all kids knew to respect him and to give your all in his class. He was one of those teachers that could take the normal troublesome kids and get them to act right and to actually care about work in his class. If you are happy with your job and results, then why leave? My mother (5th & 6th grade for 15 years, now a assistant principal) and grandmother (Kindergarten for 20+ years) are teachers. They always tell me that you do not go into teaching thinkin that you are going to make a lot of money. You go into teaching wanting to make a difference in a child's life. If it satisfies you watching kids do well in your class and make them want to do something with their lives, then why not continue to do so? I had the opportunity to substitute teach for a while, and I enjoyed helping the kids and they respected me. It felt good coming home knowing that I helped a student understand something because they would say their normal teacher never talked to them or made sure they 100% understood the lesson. But...my mom told I would not last as a teacher because I love money too much...lol |

The best teacher I ever had was my English 101 professor.
In my freshman year she managed to change my way of thinking and empower me beyond belief. She taught me to love African people, denounce institutionalized racism, and challenge stereotypes that portray African Americans negatively in a Eurocentric society. I saw "Sankofa" which changed my perspective of the African American woman in the United States. I love Dr. Selassie, I've stayed in touch with her since freshman year and I plan to remain in close contact with her. She taught me to be a sponge and she encouraged me to dream larger for my people.

i had like 4 teachers that actually changed how i was....7th grade my reading teacher got me thinking i can do it and i can be better (not just reading but everything) well i think one of the most influential teachers i had was my junior year language arts teacher he helped me to open up my mind and look at the big picture really ask why...why the government does this why the character in a movie looks that way why the grass is green ect... most of my teachers that influenced me were doing it not by reading a book BUT actually talking about real life experiences and watching movies like the Illusionist also some old movie i think the name was rose about a teacher and a adult student in college well basically a book cant helped students like you can by talking to them and showing them stuff outside the box
