My own addition ok first off click "start" then type in "disk cleanup" it should find it pretty quick, then run it, then click on "files from all users on this computer" windows will ask for your permission to continue click on "continue" then select your C Drive or whatever your main drive is if your on a custom built computer, then click "ok" it will take a little while to find everything it needs then select all of the things you don't need if you can't remember your passwords then don't check the temporary internet files or cookies ones and all the rest should be ok, however I would definitely remove both the temporary internet files and cookies if you know all of your passwords because sometimes those folders contain spyware and viruses that your protection has missed, and they can slow and even harm your computer, removing anything in the disk cleanup is very safe I do it about 1 time a week.

Windows Vista Users Must Try This!!!
Alright here is what is up you guys I got a virus and stuff or alot of spyware that didn't get blocked some how, well anyways I tryied all the guides above and I still was not going as fast as when I first bought my computer about a year ago, well anyways here is the best guide ever for speeding up a windows vista computer, this is my own guide I just figured it out after looking all over for ways to get rid of the viruses and spyware programs that were starting up and all the extra programs well with this guide u will only run the required programs it works absalute wonders for ur speed here is the guide give props i found this myself!!!

Guide To Get Your Computer Fast As When You Bought It By Vexslasher For Vista
first click on "start" or "windows" then in the start search bar type in "config.sys" without the quotation marks, next make everything look like this screen shot

if that image is no longer working then just make sure only the selective startup is clicked and the load system services is clicked, if anything is filled click it untill it is no longer filled! Then bame your computer will be as fast as when u bought it, it worked for me it will work for you, also my above guides will also help increase speed but this is by far the best out there bar none!!
