For the past year, the hip-hop culture has been under attack. From the Don Imus controversy to Rev. Al Sharpton protesting derogatory and violent lyrics, 2007 has been a year to forget for hip-hop. BET News will address the current state of hip-hop in a new three-part series entitled Hip-Hop vs. America. Hosted by BET’s Toure and Jeff Johnson, the series will tackle issues such as hip-hop’s relationship with criminality and the streets, snitching, police brutality and images of Black woman. Rappers Nelly, T.I., Mike Jones, MC Lyte, Master P and Chuck D will appear as guest commentators along with various hip-hop journalist and industry figures. “The battle over hip-hop lyrics, images and values is the flashpoint of conflict and debate between almost every division within our community — between men and woman, younger and older generations, between economic classes and educational backgrounds,” says Reginald Hudlin, President of Entertainment, BET. “Our special relationships with the most important thinkers, icons and leaders in our community allow BET to deliver the most complete exploration of this topic on television. This is the first of many town halls that BET will convene to address the most pressing issues facing our community.” Part one of Hip-Hop vs. America will air on Tuesday, September 25 at 8:00 p.m. ET, with the second hour airing on Wednesday, September 26. The third and final episode will air on www.BET.com/ontv immediately following part two.

They should've got some powerful deep thinkers like Z-Ro, Wayne, Bun B... If Tupac would come back from the dead, he would've been perfect for that shit. I'm sorry to say it but I'm doubtful Mike Jones will be able to drop very much knowledge, I mean he's the same guy who rapped about his dick. "Dick don't fail me now, I gotta turn shawty out, and she don't want nobody else, but me and only me" was the chorus to one of his songs... But it should be an interesting watch. Thanks for the info.

We dont control our own images so its hard to complain about the garbage thats on BET. A Black woman (Cathy Hughes), started an AfricanAmerican Channel called TV-one (Radio One), its format is alot better than BET. The first movie every made in America was about the KKK lynching a black man for chasing a white woman, and Tell-Lie-Vision has always supported stereotypes and racist depictions of us. We have to OWN our media, or else the wicked will exploit, and twist our culture for their own sick purposes. Cathy |

The discussion shows they have on BET these days are ridiculous, it's the same people that say we aren't being treated fairly in society yet they bring us down way more than any other race would by trying to destroy what we create ourselves. They have a panel of people against hip hop and one guest for it and when he/she tries to speak in defense he/she is cut off and/or their response is cut short by a commercial break. We do praise rappers that don't have a message and thats because the true hip hop is being censored not only by corporate America but our own rappers because their afraid if they show they have some intelligence in fear that they lose fame or money.
