Okay I Must Be Not Up On Something, Do People In Florida Just Hate Walgreens altogether?

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Another Walgreens was held up and police said the 11-year-old gunman snuck out of his parents' home, rode his bike to the drug store and used BB guns to demand cash. Police caught the child as he was trying to leave.

Investigators don't know why Shawn Roderick did it. He was arrested at a Walgreens on Kirkman Road less than a mile from his home. Police officers who were not involved in the case told Eyewitness News that their biggest fear would have been shooting the 11-year-old suspect.

If the BB guns he used were real enough to fool the store clerks, they would have definitely looked real enough to a cop in the dark outside the store. Barb jones

"When the officers get there and, if there was a level of resistance by him and he did not comply with them and pointed those guns, and they look real, it could have been a lot worse this morning," explained Sgt. Barbara Jones, Orlando Police Department.

Orlo Vista fifth grader Shawn Roderick only lives a couple of blocks from the store. He told police that he bought the guns a couple of weeks ago and decided early Monday morning to sneak out of his home at 3:30 in the morning to pull off his first robbery. He did make it out of the store with cash, but was stopped trying to get away on a bicycle by two officers in the parking lot.

Eyewitness News went to the address Roderick listed as his home on Cedar Lane, but no one inside would come to the door to answer questions. The woman Eyewitness News presumes to be his mother would not comment by phone.

As for Rodericks' motive, Eyewitness News talked to a woman raising three young girls in the same neighborhood and she had a theory that would be very frightening if true.

"Like, maybe they had a dare or something, you know, where other kids would dare him to go do something and if he didn't do it they would beat him up. You know, like the gangsters. Gangsters do stuff like that," Michelle Hicks said.

Eyewitness News asked investigators about the "gang theory" and were told that was not what Roderick told them. He is being held at the Orange County Juvenile Assessment Center and will appear before a judge Tuesday.
