Five-Year-Old Killed By Flagpole

A five-year-old girl has been killed when winds gusting as high as 40 mph brought the school flagpole down on top of her. None of the 15 other children who were also in the sheltered courtyard were injured. They were escorted inside by teachers.
"We stayed with her to make sure she felt supported and secure. She was a precious little girl. She was a good student with an incredible smile," said school principal Dina Krause.
The kindergartener was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead. The school was built in 1920 and has been renovated several times. School officials aren't quite certain when the flagpole was last replaced.
