Default Some Hip Hop thoughts(Read if you want)

What do you consider commercial rap? Artist played on the radio? Artist who make tracks with catchy hooks, not bashing just asking, because while I agree that alot of rap now is garbage, Wayne is played 100% more than 50 on the radio, so they would be one in the same if their album comes out on the same day, I guess what Im asking is what is the difference here between any artist, some artist make one style of hip hop, others make other styles, who is anyone including myself to say any of its wrong or bullshit? Orig hip hop had horrible lyrics, then it progressed, so Im not sure as to who is true hip hop, and who is not. While I dont like 99% of whats on the radio, I cant say if its wrong maybe our time in music has just passed, ever hear your parents say ask you "What the fuck are you listening to" or "How could you like that" same states here, when I was in High School in tha late 90s was when I thought hip hop peaked, then it started going downhill from then, while it may be shit now, people are buying that shit, maybe the younger generation dont want lyrical content in their music, maybe they just want to mumble along. I have accepted long ago the style of hip hop that I liked has become next to nothing now, We all always hope for one of our old artist that could rip a track come out, and their tracks are garbage, it has happened over and over again, for everyone on this site this is a fact, 50 was sick when he first dropped, Wayne was garbage, Em was sick, DMX was sick, Wu Tang was sick, Nas was sick, now you look, and the whole landscape has changed, I think people live more off of rep now than ability, most people wishing Rakim would put a cd out, theres a reason noone will put him out, hes not the same anymore his time for his style has passed, I just wish people would be true with themselves instead of putting labels on artist, let them make music the way they want for the people who want it. I dont like soulja boy, but apparently some people do, who am I to say that kid that listens to him isnt true to hip hop, I dont know him. I dont know what point Im trying to make here Im just fumming. Thank you for your time.

I Understand What You Mean. Artists Have There Era Until Someone Else Takes It. Im Not A Fan Of What Is On The Radio Or Whats On A Lot Of Mixtapes But Shit Goes On. In Another 10 Years, Hip Hop Will Change Again. New Generation Will LIke A New Kind Of Hip Hop & Possiblly Itll Be More Of A Lyrical Era But For Now Its What We Got. Im Glad Theres Still Albums From Last Decade To Last Another 10 Years. I Never Really Cared What People Listen To anyways. If They Like A Certain Artist, I Dont Try To Change Their Minds. But Good Read, I See Where YOur Coming From.Props.

Each to his own... folks needa quit worrying about who everybody else likes and just go back to the music that moves their own soul.... when i'm in the club I might crank that souljah boy, if i'm ballin' out and havin' a great time that song might just move my soul and make me feel real good.... but when I get home and i'm sittin' in the lab looking for inspiration i'm bumpin' Wu Tang, Gangstarr, Eminem, Outkast, Nas, Cypress Hill, Tupac and so on.... The kids need something to listen to as well and as much as this "ringtone" era is hurting some artists it is dragging many more out of the ghetto and slums and putting food in their family's mouths. If your not a "ringtone" artist then you need to get on your A game business wise and cake off independently doing shows, selling online, iTunes, merchandise etc... it's a great look! I think the people wishing for the "good ol' days" should go out and buy some f*cking albums by their fave artists like Ghostface, Talib Kweli, Joell Ortiz and Wu Tang instead whinging how they ain't selling any albums or getting the mass appeal love any more. Time don't stand still but good music will always be good music.

Good post, I never thought about it like that. I suppose that my views of what is "hip-hop" are somewhat one-sided and really don't leave any room for less traditional rhymes. I completely understand your position, I respect that.

I do miss the old days from time to time.... but whenver I get sentimental I just start thumbing through my LP & CD collection, light one up and take a trip down memory lane. Early 90's man.... that's my era of choice. If your looking for something to take you back I heard that new 9th Wonder/Buckshot joint is bangin'!

I said the same shit to myself. And its really sad how hip hop is right now. Idk bout yall but I be gettin emotional/mood swings about the state of hip hop right now. I know there's still good music but damn people just don't appreciate the lyrical/good/positive music anymore. ANd people just following along with other people who says that they think who is the best rapper alive just because he put a lot of mixtapes out, and who be on the remixes, TV, etc. whens its bascially whos got the most talent. I'm not tryin to hate because I be doing the same shit sometimes when I'm in a different mood. But man, hip hop ain't like what it used to be, and people from outside genre of music would think of hip hop as dances, catchy hooks, club bangers, and big booty girls. But I don't think its the artists faults on it, its the record labels.
