Hiphop Need's A Council

(Note: I didn't write this, but I do think it's worth thinking about)

What the Hip Hop game lacks right now is a council. Hip Hop, whether you like it or not, was founded on a certain sense of community and a real social scene. That's where the model comes from, and as the years have gone by and more and more of us fucking spectators and hoards of people start to get involved in it, you get a lot of miscommunication.

Miscommunication is the WORST thing for Hip Hop and the Rap game. The threads that are holding it together right now are basically the records labels. That's business based, at the end of the day, not culturally based or even with any emphasis on culture, and that's a mixture that ends up being a real conflict of interests.

KRS-One was right in the sense that we need to have a council or a group, a collective, to help organize Hip Hop and have a place where rap figures and artists can meet up to have a consensus on issues and to ultimately control the direction of their own artform. We need an actual Temple of Hip Hip. A headquarters, or at the very least a temporary meeting place.
