Sammy Davis Jr.: All Bout Da Benjamins

Outkast’s Andre “3000” Benjamin is reportedly gonna play famed Sammy Davis Jr. in an upcoming film based on the "black" singer/actor’s relationship with "white" actress Kim Novak. At the time, interracial relationships were still considered taboo, so for people as high profile as Sammy and Kim to get together was BIG NEWS and sparked much controversy.

Music video director Earle Sebastian and former Roc-A-Fella co-CEO Damon Dash are joining forces to produce the project, titled Sammy and Kim. Sam Kashner, who wrote about their relationship in Vanity Fair, will write the screenplay with his wife Nancy Schoenberger.

But the real news is that Sammy and Kim is one of FOUR Davis-related films in the works. Four flicks on the Candyman! Yeah! Denzel Washington is set to direct in Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis Jr., and Davis’ widow, Altovise, is working on Yes I Can, based on his 1965 book. A documentary based on Yes I Can is also reportedly in the works.
