China must really hate poetry. How else do you explain their decision to edit Chow Yun-fat's scene in Pirates of the Caribbean III: At World's End, in which he reads a Cantonese poem? Seriously, a good deal of Yun-fat's scenes have been cut from the film at the behest of the Chinese government, apparently due to the portrayal of the man as a pirate.
This doesn't make a whole lot of sense, as the film is literally crawling with pirates, but, still, it seems the Chinese are not into seeing pirates cut from their cultural cloth. The moral of the story? If you are headed to China in the near future, you might want to wait to see Pirates 3 until you get home. It will make a whole heck of a lot more sense that way.
