Since the gas in my area (cincinnati OHIO) is 3.99 i just can't drive like i use to before. Now i have to think twice before touching my car keys since my car gives me 18mpg, which is horrible!
here are some tips that will give u better millage and i have tried some of them and now im getting 20.8mpg. I drive slow all the time no matter what, i brake slowly and accelerate slowly. I never fill up my tank because it adds weight to the car, i got nothing in the car that shouldn't be there like books and shit, because removing all the extra weight helps big time... IF YOU GOT UR OWN TIPS, POST EM HERE Step1 Take care of your vehicle. Clean oil, fresh spark plugs and a well-tuned motor are more efficient than a run-down system. Step2 Check your air filter. If dirty or old, replace it. Step3 Run your air conditioner less. Step4 Use the correct gasoline. Most cars run well on an octane rating of 87. Mostly it's just high-performance and turbocharged engines that need higher octane. If your engine is pinging on acceleration or up hills (sounds like shaking uncooked popcorn in a glass jar) use a higher octane gasoline. Check the owner's manual for your vehicle's requirements. Step5 Keep your tires inflated properly. Incorrect inflation leads to rolling resistance from the tires. Most car tires should be inflated to 32 PSI. Step6 Drive at an even speed, whenever possible. It's more efficient than rushing to the next traffic light and then stopping. Step7 Use cruise control on the highway. Step8 Choose the route with the flattest terrain and fewest stops, if you can. Step9 Drive on highways instead of city streets, where practical. A vehicle moving at constant speed is more efficient than one that slows and speeds up, stops and starts. Step10 Do all your driving errands at once. A cold engine consumes more gas than a warmed up engine. Step11 Read the label the federal government requires on new cars the next time you shop for a vehicle. It tells a model's estimated city and highway mileage so that you can compare mileage figures for all the vehicles you consider. Step12 Eliminate unnecessary cargo. Hauling heavy loads in the trunk or inside the car will lower your gas mileage. Step13 Drive at 55 MPH. It saves gas. Step14 Keep track of your car's mileage: if it changes drastically, follow the above steps and then go see your mechanic if you can't figure out why. Step15 Make sure your Fuel Cap is o.k. In the US every year 147 Million Gallons of Fuel are lost due to evaporation.

My tips (in addition to those listed above):
1. Use synthetic oil, it lasts longer than regular oil & you get better mileage with it 2. Over-inflate your tires. I don't mean by a lot, 5-10 psi (as long as you don't exceed the tires max psi rating) is plenty. I run mine ~8/9 psi over factory spec, the ride is slightly rougher, but I get 37 mpg so I don't complain too much. ![]() 3. Don't accelerate fast. Flooring it doesn't get you anywhere that much faster, but it wastes a whole lot more gas. 4. Avoid excessive idling. You're getting 0 mpg when idling. 5. From step 10 above, go to the furthest location 1st, so that the engine is warmer at each of the following stops. |

Never pump gas on a really hot day, as gas expands. So you're getting less gas for the amount you pay normally. I always pump gas in the morning only.

1. Try to stay below 4000 RPM at ALL times
2. Try to avoid flooring the gas 3. When you see a redlight up ahead, throw it in neutral and let it coast to the light 4. When gas prices dip down, tank up, when your tank is 3 quarters full, tank up again, always take advantage of low gas prices. 5. Avoid using the A/C, bring a cool damp towelette or a bottle of icecold water 6. Stay in the fucking house, if you are bored, post on here, don't drive around looking for something to do... 7. Walk short distances, if you are going to your friend's house down the street, there really is no point in you driving up there to chill 8. Carpool/bum off your friends, waste their gas money ![]() 9. Avoid turning your car off/on constantly. Your car kills more gas during ignition than any other time. 10. If you have a smaller car drive it. If you drive a huge SUV, then that's your own fault for being a stupidass. |
