H.I.D.'s

I'm driving a 1998 Acura 3.5RL. I believe I need either an H4-3 or 9004-3.

But I'm not sure what colour to get? I heard the lower numbers are the best, but the sound of the 12000K sounds like my liking.

Propz for some feedback/help.

Putting in a HID conversion kit into a car that was not designed for them will cause a whole lotta glare, blinding everyone on the other side of the road. They're also illegal.

The "proper" way to put HIDs in a car that didn't come with them is to modify the headlight to accept a true projector. See example here.


But since you're probably gonna do it anyway, the higher the "number" the blue/purpler the light gets & the worse the visibility. Most cars come with around 4300K.

I hate it when I get to a stoplight and I am behind a cop... he might pull me over and do the paper test, and that'd be my ass.

H.I.D.s are illegal? Never knew that.. Also the chart that qwerty has is off.. The 5000K picture is more like 6000K in real life, the 6000K is more like 8000K, the 8000K is more like 10-12000K, and fuck the 15000K noone wants purple lights. And what's illegal about H.I.D.s? I thought it was only once you start getting into the bluer ones (around 6300K+) then those are illegal since it gives off blue light. I've never heard anything about anything under that being illegal. Fill me in.

I'm pretty sure they aren't illegal, the only thing I know that is illegal is underglow. But there's only about 4 cars in my city with underglow.

Though I'm most likely going to get 8000K and my brother knows how to put them on, he has 2 cars with them on.

They are illegal, on cars that dont come stock with them.


In other words, if you buy and HID Kit and you have to convert ur headlights from Halogen to HID's using the Ballasts that come in the kit- you're using illegal lights.


I guess they are illegal because aftermarket HIDs dont direct/control the light output how they are suppose to so the light from ur HID headlights blinds ppl infront of u because it throws it everywhere... unlike stock lights, that shine it towards the bottom.

I know of people that have been pulled over because of them, thats how I know it can actually happen.

If the cop is a dick, he's pull u over n give u a ticket.

Paper Test- The cop gets a sheet of paper (normal sheet of blank paper, I think) and he holds it infront of the light. If it changes color (Paper turns blue/purple), your lights are illegal.

6K Lights are usually "White" or with a tinny Violet tint, those are the most popular and the ones that look like stock lights the most.


The only LEGAL HID Kits that I know, are by Sylvania and are probably real expensive.


An "easy" way to know if ur kit is not legal, is if the little box the bulbs are in doesn't say "NHSA/DOT Approved": You "breaking the law" using those lights.




I looked all this shit up before getting mine because I wanted to make sure the risk was worth it... so far, it is.

So I THINK all that shits about right...


I might get some for my Fogs later.
