Default truck question...

i have a toyota tacoma 95 and each time i start it, no matter the weather, my engine is super loud so i have to give a little gas while its in neutral until it stops sounding like an airplane and the engine goes back to sounding normal..
anyone have any ideas what could be wrong..
i know this has to be wasting some gas being that i have to hold the rpm's at about 2000 until it ceases to be freakin loud, then i can drive off.

sidenote: i can drive the car when i first start it, but its annoying driving around with it being so loud, so i wait until the noise goes away, then i take off.

Well, is it starting to get cold where you live? Cold starts doesn't necessarily mean it has to be freezing or even winter, if it's early morning and a little chilly, older cars and maybe even newer ones, have to kinda settle down a bit when they're first started. Does it happen every single time you start up, or just after you haven't driven in some time?

hmm. hasn't been serviced at a legit shop in a long time. there is this mechanic that i take it to, much cheaper, but i'm not sure if it's quality work...i don't know too much about car engines and what not..

no, it sounds like i'm revving the engine. and it doesn't go away until i revv it some more and hold it at about 2000rpms for about 20 seconds.

If you can take it to a mechanic and have them do a diagnostic on your car and it should at least tell you something

Try going to a Toyota garage instead of a corner mechanic.

Sounds like the throttle may be sticking. If you don't want to take it to a Toyota dealership and pay the diagnostic fees, then prob get swindled into doing the work whether you want it or not and all that razzamatazz. Take it to a checker or auto-zone. They're pretty good at what they do most of the time.
