A round-by-round account of the welterweight bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. (36-0, 24 KOs) and Zab Judah (34-4, 25 KOs) from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Mayweather won by unanimous decision, 116-112, 117-111, 119-109.


Round 1

Mayweather lands a sharp left hook 45 seconds into the round, but the fighters spend most of the first half of the round trying to figure each other out. Judah lands a powerful straight left just after the halfway point, and gets in a decent combination with less than 40 seconds to go.

Round 2

Judah is landing power shots and Mayweather seems to be struggling with the southpaw's style. Judah is shooting jabs, but few are landing. Mayweather tries for a combination but Judah counters with a short left to the jaw late in the round.

Round 3

Mayweather is being more active and starting to work on the body. Judah keeps measuring him but doesn't pull the trigger on any power shots. Neither boxer seems to have a big edge, but Judah is more than holding his own.

Round 4

Judah lands an overhand left that staggers Mayweather early in the round. Mayweather collects himself, but he keeps lunging at Judah with his right and he's not landing. Mayweather gets in a left hook with a minute left. Judah is looking more confident. Mayweather lands a late left. but looks unable to figure Judah out.

Round 5

Mayweather is active, and he lands a hard right flush halfway through the round. Judah looks like he's taking a round off. Mayweather is pressing the attack with a minute to go. Judah lands a few hard shots to end the round.

Round 6

Mayweather continues to be active, but Judah is looking livelier early than he did for all but the final 15 seconds of the fifth round. Mayweather is working the body and Judah can't find a way to counter. Mayweather lands a good straight right at the end of the round.

Round 7

Mayweather is stepping up the action and it looks like he's figured Judah out. Blood trickles from Judah's mouth and nose after a solid Mayweather combination halfway into the round. Both fighters look quick, but Mayweather is getting faster and Judah isn't.

Round 8

Both come out slow. Mayweather's defense is virtually impenetrable. Mayweather on the other hand is landing body shots with ease. Judah measures Mayweather with a powerful left with 30 seconds to go and finishes strong, but it's Mayweather's round.

Round 9

It's a slow round until Mayweather lands a hard right with a little over a minute to go. Blood is trickling from Judah's mouth again. Judah tries to land a left uppercut but misses wildly. More and more, Mayweather is having his way and Judah needs a big punch to pull out a win.

Round 10

Judah's jab is like a shotgun from a thousand yards -- scattered and ineffective. Mayweather calmly lands rights to the body and avoids Judah's attempts to counter. Judah throws a low blow with about 10 seconds left in the round and corner men and hangers-on charge into the ring. Order is restored, but Mayweather is clearly hurt.

Round 11

The first minute sees little action. Mayweather seems to have recovered from the low blow. Judah is still unable to land any hard legal shot. It's a slow round as Mayweather plays defense and Judah seems pleased just to be on his feet at this point.

Round 12

Judah lands a good straight left early but is unable to follow it up with anything. Mayweather continues to score points, Judah is looking for the knockout shot. Mayweather is taunting Judah, who just can't get through the defense until a desperation flurry proves nothing to close the fight.

that was good fight for Mayweather, he seemed more calm than Judah...that low blow, man, that shit wasnt accidental at all..Zab knew what he was doin when he did that. then he hit him in the back of the head too! i mean cmon man, both men were having a good fight then Zab kinda messed that up by doing that. in my opinion, they should have a rematch..but Mayweather wants to take out De La Hoya and i wanna see Mayweather him out

Zab had a good fight...till like tha end of the fourth, beginnin of fifth round. it was startin to get ugly afta that. zab couldnt land any punches. and his percentiles were mad low.
