Default Flip Saunders Out as Pistons Head Coach

Flip Saunders Not To Return As Pistons’ Coach

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Detroit Pistons President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that Flip Saunders will not return next season as the team’s head coach.
“Decisions like this are difficult to make, especially with the success we have had throughout the last three regular-seasons,” Dumars said. “However, at this time, I feel it is necessary to make a change. I thank Flip for his hard work and dedication, but it is time for a new voice to lead our team.”

Saunders, who was named head coach on July 21, 2005, tallied a regular-season record of 176-70 in three seasons with the Pistons. In three trips to the NBA Playoffs under Saunders the Pistons were 30-21, losing in the Eastern Conference Finals each year.

That was a slight shock...just a slight one. This is mainly cuz Joe Dumars said like Monday morning that he wasn't going anywhere. How can a team so good not be able to keep a coach?

Yea, I agree.. first i saw of it was on here, so i shot over to ESPN to see if it was actually true... Theres no loyalty with some franchises, its a shame that good coaches are always the fall guy for a team that doesn't live up to expectations.. Whats a new coach gonna do for them? At the end of the day, there failure to go further in the playoffs, has to fall on the players.
Look at this article i posted up & the mistakes that Rasheed has made..
Expect a busy summer for Pistons
What are they gonna do, hire an army commander to keep Sheed in check?

Why did they do that? They need to shake up the roster, not get rid of the coach. Aww well, at least the Suns got a coach they can interview. Thanks Pistons.

I wouldnt really be too excited about Flip. He cant win in the playoffs. 7 years in Minnesota he got eliminated in the 1st round. He's been in the playoffs 11 times and never got to the Finals.

It wasn't Flip losing his cool or getting T's or committing more fouls than scoring points.

Yea my point exactly, make sure Mcdyess sticks around, and then you have Maxiell... Trade Sheed for a center..

It was a frank and blunt Dumars that met the media Tuesday afternoon, about five hours after thanking Flip Saunders for three years of service but telling him a fourth year wasn’t in the cards for him.

You can see the video of Dumars’ press conference on Pistons.com, but the highlights for me were these:

Dumars saying significant change was his desire and that “everybody’s in play. There are no sacred cows here.”

Dumars saying the last 10 minutes of Game 6, when the Pistons squandered a 10-point lead and lost going away, was “a microcosm of the last three years.”

Dumars saying that as he walked out of The Palace after that game, he felt a “sense of calm. I’ve seen enough.”

Dumars saying “this team became way too content and did not show up with a sense of urgency to get it done.”

He’s not promising earth-changing deals because, as he said, it takes two to tango and he’s not giving players away. But the message is clear: If Dumars has his way, the Pistons are going to look significantly different by the time they convene for training camp in October.

this is why we stay in the race if not thee best GM then top 3.....we be back, watch yall players Joe on the move..
