SEATTLE -- In a stunning turn, the city of Seattle and the SuperSonics have reached a last-minute settlement before the judge was to rule in their KeyArena lease dispute.
The settlement was reached just hours before U.S. District Judge Marsha Pechman was to announce her verdict in the trial between the city and the team. A source told The Seattle Times the two sides have been discussing a deal that would involve the Sonics leaving town for Oklahoma City in exchange for up to a $75 million payment to the city. Sonics owner Clay Bennett may not have to pay the entire amount if the city gets another team, the source told the Times. The city of Seattle has scheduled a news conference at 5 p.m. PT Wednesday, the same time as a news conference in Oklahoma City with Sonics' owner Clay Bennett. Terms of the settlement were expected to be announced then. The settlement was announced by Pechman on the federal court Web site. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3471503

You Know They Did Leave Right?!? My City Just Lost 42 Years (We Do Get To Keep The Name, Colors And Records, Without A Team That Doesn't Matter). I Won't Watch Another NBA Game Until We Get Another Team...
If We Get Another Team That Is, So Now It's F The NBA! ![]()

Misleading title... a settlement by the city for $$ is like conceding that they lost in court, since the only reason they went that far was to keep the team in town.
Sucks for you Sonics fans... Im sorry

Yea well don't blame the NBA. Blame the previous ownership for signing a dumb deal...I believe they paid the highest rent in the NBA, at the oldest arena in the NBA... Blame the local & state politicians for not putting some money in to build a new Arena...they were losing money, not enough support...A team can't win, or even compete when there behind before the season starts.

We'll see how this turns out when they come to the OKC to play. I plan on checking out a few games, though we're still emotionally attached to the Hornets. Oh yeah, and fuck anyone from Seattle talkin' shit about my City when y'all ain't even been there. They wanted to wait until now to give a damn about the team and cryin' about it now that they're gone. See how the Hornets used OKC as a turning point for the best? Same thing can happen to the Sonics once they're here.

@ all the support the fans were givin the Sonics once they thought they were leaving. Maybe they could've gave them support when they were in season.

Look at the two stadiums they built for the Mariners & Seahawks..World Class top of the line buildings, with everything you need plus the extras... Goes to show you Seattle cares more about football & baseball then basketball. Probably has to do with football & baseball stadiums hold around 40 to 50,000.Basketball is 17-20,000. Mariners Home - Safeco Field ![]() Seahawks Home - Qwest Field ![]()
