Packers GM, coach say team won't release Favre despite request
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers' general manager and coach say they don't plan to grant Brett Favre's request for his release. GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy told The Associated Press on Saturday that the star quarterback was welcome to rejoin the team but would have to be a backup. It was their first public comments since Favre demanded his release this week. Favre held a tearful news conference to announce his retirement March 6. Thompson and McCarthy did not want to discuss a possible trade. Thompson said he had not received any inquiries as of Saturday morning. On Friday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that Favre had requested an unconditional release from the Packers via letter, seeking an amicable parting, attributing sources close to the player and team. Neither Thompson nor McCarthy had expressed optimism concerning a possible return during a conference call with Favre and his agent, James Cook, according to the sources. Favre, who was placed on the on the reserve-retired list in late April, has three years and $39 million left on his contract with the Packers. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. |

That's how it is. You can't miss all the workouts, new schemes, etc. and just come back. I feel sorry for all THREE parties. Feel sorry for the Pack because they gotta go through this emotional seesaw. Feel sorry for Brett because he WANTS to come to do something he loves and they're kinda sayin no. Feel REAL sorry for Rodgers because there's no winning for him. The fans aren't goin to accept him like Favre. And if Favre comes back, he has to play knowing that after any mistake his ass is back on the bench. Dude was GREAT in college and he has to go through this? Unfair to him.
I totally understand where the Pack is comin from tho. You think you're just gonna walk in here and we're gonna give you to the Vikings or Bears????? WE GOTTA SEE THEM TWICE A YEAR!!!!! lol Brett might just need to turn on Madden and sign himself to a team(he's a free agent in the game). |

He'll be back and not as a backup, he's too good not to be a starting QB somewhere.
And even if the Packers dont want him to go to a team in the division, Brets not gonna screw em over, Im sure they can find some kind of agreement to let him play somewhere. Thats the least they could do
