Associated Press
Posted: 8 minutes ago Andy Pettitte is headed back to the New York Yankees. Pettitte and the Yankees reached a preliminary agreement Friday on a $16 million, one-year contract, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not been announced. The deal includes a $16 million player option for 2008. Pettitte must pass a physical for the agreement to be finalized. Pettitte left the Yankees after the 2003 season to sign with his hometown Astros and spent three seasons with Houston. Joined by former Yankees teammate Roger Clemens, he helped Houston reach the World Series for the first time in 2005. The 34-year-old left-hander was 14-13 with a 4.20 ERA last season. He would join a rotation that includes Chien-Ming Wang, Mike Mussina and Randy Johnson. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6251828

-yawn- Typical Red Sox fans....
Pettitte will do just fine..his ERA was so high cause he got NO run support from the Astros weaker lineup..and yes he may be getting older with a few naggin' injuries..but he's already proved he's a workhorse... And for you Sox fans..good job overpaying for J.D. Drew....you were better off UNDERPAYING Trot Nixon to stay...Lugo was a good pickup..but what are you gonna do with no closer when you gotta face Jeter, Abreu, and ARod?

ed-k's a yank..he said that in an earlier post...
sox got lugo, an overpayed drew and a japanese pitcher who i dont even recall his name...and Lester is cancer free so he should be ready to come back to the rotation. and Papelbon said he will go back to the closer roll if he has to. They were going after gagne but it looks like the bottom fell through on that..and hes so injury prone theres more risk than reward. Regardless of whether u like the yanks or the sox...it should be an interesting run this year, hopefully we'll get to see one of their late season/ playoff battles like past years... As far as pettitte goes...i think he might do well for the yanks...and i think their pitching just might hold up..if not steinbrenner will just blow more money on other pitchers..no worries yanks fans haha Last edited by mjh8812; 12-10-2006 at 09:22 PM.. |
