mp3 player help

ok so i have a pretty old mp3 player, its a rca lyra 2825, ive had it for 4-5 years now, anyways it was playing yesterday wen suddenly it froze. i turned it off with the reset button on the side, anyways after a while i got this error

Failed to load files. Restart unit to resume operation. Update system files if problem persists.

so i go to hook it up to my computer to update the files but i get the same error and it won't even connect to my computer.

any advice on how to get it back to work, or how i can just get my songs off it.
