Below, download and install Exact Audio Copy 0.9 beta 4. If the configuration wizard pops up, close it.

Code:
ftp://fx1.hrz.uni-dortmund.de/sw_data/su0165/EAC/eac-0.95b4.exe
Step 2:
Start EAC. From the EAC drive selection pulldown box (right below the menu system) select the drive you want to use with EAC. (It may already be selected).

Beside the drive name it will either say Adapter: 0 or Adapter: 1 or Adapter: 2, make a note of which Adapter your drive uses. Also note which ID your drive uses, such as ID: 0, ID:1, etc. Now close EAC.

Step 2b: (For WindowsXP and Win2K Users Only)
Below, download the Nero ASPI Layer DLL. You must place this DLL file in the directory you installed EAC. (Usually C:Program FilesExact Audio Copy). Windows 95/98/ME already has an ASPI layer built in, so doesn't use this.
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/wnaspi32.dll
Step 3:
Depending on which adapter and ID your drive uses (see Step 2) download one of the following .CFG profiles:

Adapter 0 - ID0

Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter0%20-%20ID0%5D.CFG
Adapter 0 - ID1
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter0%20-%20ID1%5D.CFG
Adapter 1 - ID0
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter1%20-%20ID0%5D.CFG
Adapter1 - ID1
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter1%20-%20ID1%5D.CFG
Adapter2 - ID0
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter2%20-%20ID0%5D.CFG

Adapter2 - ID1
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter2%20-%20ID1%5D.CFG

Adapter2 - ID2
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter2%20-%20ID2%5D.CFG
Adapter2 - ID3
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter2%20-%20ID3%5D.CFG
Adapter3 - ID0
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter3%20-%20ID0%5D.CFG

Adapter3 - ID1
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter3%20-%20ID1%5D.CFG

Adapter3 - ID2
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter3%20-%20ID2%5D.CFG

Adapter3 - ID3
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter3%20-%20ID3%5D.CFG

Adapter4 - ID0
Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter4%20-%20ID0%5D.CFG
Adapter4 - ID1

Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter4%20-%20ID1%5D.CFG

Adapter4 - ID2

Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter4%20-%20ID2%5D.CFG

Adapter4 - ID3

Code:
http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules/MP3DB/MP3byMyden%5BAdapter4%20-%20ID3%5D.CFG

after downloading, save it to your EAC Profiles directory (likely C:Program Files\Exact Audio Copy?Profiles).

Step 4:
Below, download the best MP3 encoder on the planet, LAME 3.97 Final by Dibrom MP3 Encoder (required). Save this lame.exe file to your EAC directory (Usually C:Program FilesExact Audio Copy).
Code:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R82BGMVB
Note: If you are upgrading from a previous version, please do the following...
1) Change command line option to -V2 --vbr-new %s %d
..... also change this under Compression Options. You also have to put User Defined Encoder for the Parameter passing sceme. A picture is shown below to show you how it should be set up for your convenience.

This is the way it should look.

Step 5:
Put an audio CD in your CD-ROM drive BEFORE you open EAC (important). Open EAC. (Cancel the Wizard if it pops up). From the drive selection menu at the top, choose the drive you want to use.

Under the EAC Menu, choose 'Profiles' -> 'Load Profile' and select the .CFG file you downloaded in Step 3. (If you put the .CFG file in your C:Program FilesExact Audio CopyProfiles directory you can also select the profile from the menu at the bottom right, although some people say this doesn't always work, so try the first method)

Step 6:
For those of you creating MP3s, you will now need to go to EAC -> Compression Options -> External Compression tab. Click on the 'browse' button and point to the lame.exe file that you downloaded in Step 4. Click OK. If you're connected to the Internet, hit ALT-G to name all the tracks for you. If you get a 'FreeDB server error', press F12 and then select an active server from the list.

Step 7:
Highlight some tracks and hit the MP3 button on the left. EAC will ask you where you want to save your extracted files. Choose a directory and make a note of it, so you can play these files later! Click Save. EAC is now extracting the audio from your CD. Once the first track is complete, a black DOS window should open (that's your MP3 being created), don't close it, it will do that automatically once it's done.

After the extraction is finished, open the .log file that was generated by EAC. It should look like this sample LogFile below. (please click the link below so you know)
Code:
http://www.ubernet.org/?p=LogFile
Congratulations, you are now creating the highest quality MP3s on earth! Wow, that wasn't so hard after all was it?
[b]
Common Mistake: If your .log file says NO DISABLE CACHE, then you need to open EAC, and press F10. Click on the Extraction Method tab and put a checkmark beside 'Drive caches audio data'. Now when you rip, your .log file will say 'disable cache' as it should.

Important Information: Before ripping CD's, make sure to double check the following under the menu EAC > EAC Options.

1. Extraction tab: Make sure 'Fill up missing offset samples with silence' is NOT checked. Only 'Synchronize between tracks' and 'Skip track extraction on read or sync errors' should be checked.

2. Interface tab:The use of of SCSI interface should be the external ASPI interface. This should be the option checked. If you have the Native Win32 interface, this is wrong. Change it to ASPI interface.

Grouprips are done by various newsgroups, they're not something that you can do yourself

Yeah, an EAC rip at 320kbps'll be the best quality you can get without actually listening to the CD.

you are wrong.

while technically 320 is the best quality mp3, 320kbps mp3s are oversized and unnecessary because the encoder uses 320 kilobytes for even silence, it has no room to fluctuate and therefore causes the files to become oversized. V0 mp3s are the best because there is no difference in quality, and it can give less kilobytes to parts of the song that require less audio data.

however,

you can not truly get the same quality as the cd without encoding your music into a lossless format. there are many, but the best one is .flac because it can compress the files the furthest while still not losing any audio data, however the file sizes for flac are huge, with CDs coming in at around 500-800mb per album. flac generally plays at around 700-900 kbps, but can be lower or higher depending on the preset that you used to encode the tracks with (the songs will sound the same, but it will take significantly longer to encode the tracks with a higher compression ratio).

flac is better to rip your CDs into because you can later encode the .flac files to mp3, or whatever format you choose to without any extra loss in quality, whereas if you encoded the tracks with 320 mp3 from the beginning, and then tried to encode them further to say 128 mp3s, the sound quality will be significantly less than if you had originally encoded the files straight from th CD to 128, or if you encoded them to 128 from the .flac files.

a perfect, step-by-step guide to setting up EAC to rip CDs as perfect 1:1 copies onto your computer can be found here (when you get to the "setting the encoder options" part, disregard the parts about lame mp3, monkeys audio and ogg vorbis, unles you want to encode into those formats as well.)
