Ok, so I've got a problem with my display drivers.
Not so long ago i bought a spanking new laptop from Dell and like 3 weeks later i got the blue screen of death. Had to reinstall EVERYTHING; OS and all the drivers. At the moment, the driver i have installed for my display is just a basic driver named 'Standard VGA Graphics adapter'. I tried to play WoW and it was like 'Cannot find a suitable display unit'. Was like wtf, this is a new laptop and it can't play WoW? Now the drivers installation disk i have has the driver 'nVidia GeForce 8400M Rev A:OO' which is obviously a much better display driver. Now whenever i install it, it installs successfully but when the computer is restarted, Windows won't load leading me having to switch off the laptop and run start-up fix which ends up forcing me to system restore. Tried multiple times to install this thing but my laptop isn't having none of it. Any ideas? Major propz. Any small idea/info will be propped. |

If you installed the driver from the disc and windows doesnt detect it, you should deffiently just do a complete system restore. (Reformat and reinstall windows) with the disc included with the laptop. Have you tried downloading and installing the driver from Nvidia's website?

Start > Run > "devmgmt.msc" (without quotes)
display adapters -> right click -> uninstall Then it should show your vid card name with an exclamation mark. right click -> update driver and tell it to search your CD drive |

uninstall display driver (go to device manager and right click on display and uninstall), restart and install newer display driver (might have to install in safe mode if things fail). Also run CCLeaner after uninstall.

I hope your Video Driver and The WoW games Video process didnt fuck up your computer, but then again it might be a compatibility issue... With most Dell Laptops you can choose on which operating system to run the program on... My CPU did the same shit when I DL Live 08 and Assassins Creed...

Thanks for all your posts. Only just got into work, so i'll try all these ideas when i get home this evening and update ya'll on what fixed the problem, if the problem is fixed. Don't really want to do a full system restore, i've lost count the amount of times i've had to fucking re-install 11,000+ songs on iTunes. ![]() |

If your still having issues, try an application like Driver Genius (look around you can find it) it runs a scan on your laptop and then lets you know which drivers are invalid are missing .
You then select the driver (in your case video) it will locate the most current driver, download it then you install it. Sometimes after installing you still have to go into Device Manager and browse to were the actual files for the video card is located. Give it a try. |
