MP3 Bitrate

So if you rip your music what bitrate do you go for?

I personally just download my shit so I ain't fussed what it is and don't go lucking for certain quality mp3s as I can't really tell the difference tbh. I know the 320kbps ones seem to be a much larger file size though. I suppose I could tell the difference if I had the same song and listened to both but I wouldn't be able to guess the bitrate to a track unless it just sounded pure shit quality n would just get deleted.

Anyways I have all ice cubes albums ranging between bitrates but I came across a 320kbps bitrate collection of all icecube albums also and dunno whether to just download them instead for the sake of it. I downloaded a 2pac discography which are all 320kbps but had no choice at the time, its like 2 or 3gb in size just for 2pac n will be the same for icecube.

I convert all of mine to 128kbps. People say it's too low, but I can't tell the difference, so I make more space for films and tv shows

I downloaded a couple of the 320kbps tracks and compared to the 192kbps versions I have n played them through itunes and the ipod and can't tell the difference. I'm using some good sony earphones plus tried the apple earphones. But I think I will experiment on speakers tomorrow and another set of sony earphones I have.

A friend said I will only hear the difference if I'm using expensive equipment. Wonder if good headphones help make you hear the difference in quality. I ain't gonna buy anything but just trying to justify whether its worth looking for 320kbps version of albums but I don't think it is really if you think about the file size.

I have a couple version of michael jacksons billie jean I can tell the difference in quality though if I play after each other but if I listen to them randomly at no specific times then I wouldn't know the difference, only when you do it straight after each other.

320kbps all the way. I only downgrade the bitrate when I need it to fit something (ringtone,crappy mp3 player etc).

I only listen to V0 VBR(see ghdp's EAC threads), better quality than 320 in some ways and a lesser file size. Anything lower than that sounds too thin/light for me to listen to.
